How not to mess up at a job interview?

You have made it to the interview stage? Congratulations! However it's too early to celebrate there's no job offer yet. The key purpose of the interview is to gain insight into your motivation and to learn a little more about you. Sounds simple, but it's actually easy to make a mistake that will ruin everything. What do you do to not fail? How do you act to impress the employer and move forward? Here is some advice:
1.Come prepared.
Even if there are only several hours left before the interview, don't disregard this step. Find out more about the company — this will help you to immerse yourself in the corporate culture and impress the recruiter with your knowledge of projects. Refresh your memory and re-read the job description to figure out what the position requires. Prepare a short self-introduction: speak of what your studies at Skoltech involved, what were the reasons for leaving your previous employer, why you consider yourself to be an ideal candidate for the job.

2.Ask the recruiter for details.
Before the interview, ask the recruiter about the corporate dress code and the things you might need during the interview (for example, a laptop for the test assignment). If there is no dress code, put on comfortable and unpretentious clothes and take a pen and a writing pad with you.

3.Don't complain about your colleagues or your previous job.
We highly recommended to stay positive: if you complain about your past employer, the recruiter will conclude that you will do the same in the conversation with your next employer. Remain neutral: this way you will show corporate loyalty.

4.Ask questions.
Remember: you must come in equipped with questions for the hiring manager. Do not be afraid to ask them. You can do it at the end of the interview to show your interest and to learn about the important details: what salary to expect, whether there is a private health insurance, or if it's possible to work from home. Some questions may be about the company and the job itself. What are the company's plans for the future? Why has the previous employee left? Is a data-driven approach used?

5.Attend test interviews.
Let's be fair: it's very rare to get a dream job on the first try. To be fully prepared for an interview with your dream employer, go to job interviews with other companies, even if they are not totally relevant. After a trial interview, you will have an idea of what to expect from recruiters and how to answer standard questions. As a plus, you will gain self-confidence.
